NHS South East rolls out autonomous skin cancer AI that can discharge patients
NHS England's South East region is deploying DERM, an AI from Skin Analytics, across all 18 NHS trusts from this autumn, covering another 9 million people. The system analyses lesion images and can discharge patients with benign findings without a dermatologist. Skin Analytics says DERM rules out skin cancer 99.5% of the time and detects about 98% of cancers.
- DERM goes live in all 18 NHS South East trusts for three years
- Rollout covers another 9 million people; 25 NHS trusts already use it
- DERM rules out skin cancer 99.5% of the time and finds about 98%
- Early discharge of up to a third of urgent referrals could free 13,500 consultant hours a year
