SpaceX announces plans to make Starlink a 'major' US mobile carrier
SpaceX will combine satellite and terrestrial mobile infrastructure to become a "major" US carrier, competing with AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile. The company acquired licenses for up to 14 MHz of paired low-band spectrum in the 800 MHz band, adding to the 2 GHz of mid-band spectrum it bought from EchoStar. The plan awaits final FCC approval; the agency has already cleared deployment of 15,000 V2 Starlink Mobile satellites with 100 times the bandwidth of current satellites.
