US Army tests GPS-free navigation at Mach 5+ hypersonic flight
General Dynamics Mission Systems and DEVCOM AvMC successfully tested the MO-Nav receiver aboard Stratolaunch's hypersonic Talon-A vehicle, which flies at about Mach 6. The system provides position, navigation and timing without GPS using multiple satellite constellations and signals of opportunity; a MOHAWK demonstration with M-Code is planned for 2027.
- MO-Nav is a single-board receiver with a reprogrammable software-defined architecture
- The test flew on the 8.5-meter Talon-A at roughly Mach 6
- A hypersonic MOHAWK demonstration with integrated M-Code is planned for 2027
- Further tests on precision-guided munition platforms are planned for 2028
