Nigeria launches digital postcodes, but its infrastructure runs on AWS
On October 1, Nigeria launched NDAPS, assigning unique 11-character codes to buildings nationwide. TechCabal found that postcode.gov.ng's public-facing infrastructure resolves to AWS, raising data sovereignty questions amid the government's push for localisation.
- NDAPS assigns 11-character codes: 2 state letters, 2 LGA digits, 3 district characters, 2 area letters, 2 building digits
- Nigeria loses an estimated ₦50–80 billion ($37.7–60.3 million) a year to poor addressing
- postcode.gov.ng's public infrastructure resolves to AWS, while the central bank mandates local storage of payment data from January 1, 2027
- Nigeria has 21 operational data centres and 16 more in development, enough to host the system locally
