Hyosung Heavy Industries completes 2 GW HVDC test facility in Korea

Hyosung Heavy Industries has become the first in Korea to complete a HILS test facility for validating its own 2 GW HVDC controller. The system emulates a real power grid, letting the company repeatedly test fault scenarios that are 2–3 times more numerous than for 200 MW systems.

• The HILS facility is located at the company's research center in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi Province
• A 2 GW system requires 2–3 times more test scenarios than a 200 MW one
• Hyosung developed the design, installation, testing and operation in-house
• In September Hyosung was picked for KEPCO's HVDC localization project
