Apple M6 deep dive: 2nm chip with three-tier CPU architecture
Apple's M6 is one of the first mass-market 2nm chips on TSMC's process with GAAFET transistors. The die shrank to about 142 mm² from 157 mm² on the M5, the CPU gained three core types (2 Super, 4 Performance, 6 Efficiency), the GPU now has 12 cores and the Neural Engine is doubled. Memory bandwidth rises only to 170 GB/s on 24GB and 32GB models.
- M6 die is about 142 mm² versus 157 mm² for the M5
- CPU uses 2 Super, 4 Performance and 6 Efficiency cores
- GPU grows from 10 to 12 cores, Neural Engine doubled
- Memory bandwidth up to 170 GB/s on 24GB and 32GB models
