Intel CPU Prices Climbed 30% as AI Seized Global Memory Production
Intel raised PC processor prices for the third time this year on October 5, adding about 10% for a cumulative gain of roughly 30% over 2025 levels. The cause is memory makers Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron shifting capacity to HBM for AI accelerators, which uses three times more wafer area per gigabyte than DDR5.
- Third Intel price hike in a year: +10% from October 5, about 30% cumulative
- HBM uses 3x more wafer area per GB than DDR5, up to 4x for HBM4
- LPDDR5X contract prices jumped 89% in Q2 2026
- Data centers now absorb 70% of global memory output, up from 20-30% in 2022
