Google Messages plans to remove per-contact RCS toggle

Strings found in a beta build of Google Messages for Android (20261002_00_RC00) suggest the app will soon drop the per-contact option to disable RCS. Users would then only be able to turn RCS off for all chats or rely on the SMS/MMS fallback when delivery fails.

• Beta build of Google Messages contains strings about removing the option
• RCS can currently be disabled for individual contacts
• Only a global RCS off switch would remain
• No timeline for the change has been announced
