Weizmann's Brain-IT reconstructs viewed images from fMRI in one hour
The Weizmann Institute's Brain-IT system reconstructs images a person is viewing from brain-scan data and adapts to a new participant in about one hour, versus roughly 40 hours for earlier methods. The work was accepted at ICLR 2026.
- Calibration for a new participant cut from 40 hours to about one hour
- System improves content fidelity and visual detail over prior brain-to-image models
- Researchers identified 128 shared brain regions, including an indoor/outdoor scene division
- Decoding of private thoughts, memories or dreams was not demonstrated
