1Finity: operators should build AI-RAN where a customer is already paying
Rob Hughes, head of wireless marketing at Fujitsu's 1Finity, told the Intelligent RAN Forum that today's RAN performance gains alone don't justify AI-RAN investment. He advises operators to start with deployments that already have a business case and a paying customer, reselling idle RAN compute for enterprise AI workloads.
- Hughes: RAN performance gains alone don't justify AI-RAN capex
- Operators should start where a paying customer already exists
- RAN is built for peak capacity, leaving compute heavily underutilized
- Policy-driven orchestration must prioritize the network, then partition and bill
