IBM uses Everspin MRAM in 5th-gen FlashCore Modules
IBM's fifth-generation FlashCore Modules replace supercapacitors with Everspin MRAM to protect against data loss during power failures. The FCM5 SSDs use QLC NAND with an SLC write zone and come in five raw capacities from 6.6 to 105.6 TB, with effective compressed capacities up to 316.8 TB.
- MRAM stores metadata on power loss instead of supercapacitors
- FCM5 uses QLC NAND with SLC write zone and hardware compression
- Five capacities: 6.6–105.6 TB raw, up to 316.8 TB compressed
- Everspin has shipped over 200 million MRAM chips in 20 years
