Layered altermagnet Co1/4TaSe2 could enable spintronic computers
Researchers led by UCF physicist Madhab Neupane found experimental evidence of altermagnetism in Co1/4TaSe2, a layered material with magnetic cobalt atoms. Altermagnets combine the stray-field-free operation of antiferromagnets with the ability to generate spin currents, pointing to faster, more energy-efficient spintronic devices.
- Altermagnetism confirmed in Co1/4TaSe2 via spin-resolved ARPES
- Material combines no stray fields with spin-current generation
- Layered TMD structure allows exfoliation and tunable properties
- Targets: spintronics, ultrafast memory, terahertz networks
