Capcom evolves RE Engine into REX, an engine for the "AI generation"
At its RE:2026 conference, Capcom detailed REX, a project to evolve RE Engine so AI can read and write code, run test plays and hunt bugs automatically. The engine is unified under one programming language, and some technologies like RE:Dox and RE:Log have been open-sourced for AI training.
- REX is not a new engine but a set of RE-prefixed technologies on top of RE Engine
- AI could write code, run test plays and check for bugs on its own
- RE:Dox, RE:Log and other components were open-sourced, partly for AI training
- RE:Runtime translates code into RE:C++ and speeds up loading many characters
