DriVe2X V2G pilot lets parked EVs feed power back to the grid
The DriVe2X project by European energy firms and researchers is testing bidirectional charging, using parked EVs as temporary batteries during peak demand. Pilots ran at Porto airport and two hotels on the Isle of Wight. Adoption is limited by the small number of compatible vehicles and inconsistent support for the ISO 15118-20 standard.
- DriVe2X pilots ran at Porto airport and two Isle of Wight hotels
- Parked EVs discharge at peak hours and recharge overnight at lower rates
- Bidirectional charging and compatible on-site chargers are required
- ISO 15118-20 exists, but automakers implement it inconsistently
