Python plans to add Rust to CPython: first code in 3.16, mandatory by 2029
At the Python Language Summit, the Rust for CPython team presented a plan to integrate Rust: Python 3.16 (October 2027) would ship optional Rust support with a zlib module built on zlib-rs, while Rust would become required to build CPython no earlier than Python 3.18 in 2029. The team has about 60 developers, including several Python core developers and a delegation from the Rust project.
