FTL isolates containers like VMs with a userspace kernel
FTL ran its first real workload, a Rust HTTP server on Linux, in September 2026 using a userspace kernel that is a fraction of a conventional OS. Each container carries its own library OS, while the FTL kernel only provides vCPU, memory and drivers, giving VM-level isolation without booting a full VM.
- First real run: a Rust HTTP server on Linux in September 2026
- Per-container library OS; FTL kernel only supplies vCPU, memory and drivers
- No hardware virtualization or bare-metal required, runs inside a normal VM
- Roadmap: filesystem in November 2026, Node.js and Go in December
