Investigation: European Data Centers Conceal Energy and Water Consumption Data

A joint investigation by Lighthouse Reports and Trouw found that only 44 of the Netherlands' 186 commercial data centers publish electricity figures, and 47 publish water figures. Dutch data centers consumed 5,100 GWh in 2024, or 4.6% of national electricity use, with grid operator TenneT projecting 10–15% by 2030.
