US tech layoff announcements hit 165,925 jobs in 2026 so far
US tech companies announced 10,799 job cuts in September 2026, up 77% from August, according to Challenger, Gray & Christmas. Year-to-date tech layoffs reached 165,925, a 54% increase over the same period in 2025. Uber's cut of 10% of its workforce, about 3,300 roles, was the largest.
