Two Driverless Cars Crashed at 155 mph at A2RL Race in Imola
At the Abu Dhabi Autonomous Racing League event at Imola, PoliMove's and Unimore's driverless cars collided at roughly 155 mph in the Rivazza corners. Only two of five cars finished the final: UAE's Kinetiz won, Germany's Constructor Racing was second, and TUM withdrew with a brake fault.
- The crash happened in Rivazza, Imola's notoriously difficult final corner sequence
- Unimore's car stopped after losing all lidar and radar data; GPS alone was too imprecise
- PoliMove detected the car ahead but had only 1.5 seconds and 1 g of braking to react
- Only two of the five finalists completed the race
