Open-source Carbon Impacts Tracer converts CO2 emissions into concrete damage

Climate researchers at Australian National University and UNSW released the open-source Carbon Impacts Tracer, which converts tonnes of CO2 into measurable harm across eight categories, including excess heat deaths in Europe, crop loss, coral loss, glacier melt and poverty. Australia's Carmichael coal project, at 4.7 billion tonnes of emissions, translates to roughly 2,628 extra heat deaths in Europe and 87.4 million coral colonies lost per bleaching event.
