India: ACs, TVs and refrigerators to get pricier from October 1

New rules taking effect in India from October 1 will push electronics prices up by 5–8%. The increase is driven by higher import duties on components and a new MDR fee on UPI transactions starting October 15.

• Prices for ACs, TVs, refrigerators and washing machines to rise 5–8%
• A 0.4% MDR fee on UPI transactions above 2,000 rupees starts October 15
• Fee capped at 300 rupees for transactions above 75,000 rupees
• Higher duties on copper, aluminium and steel also raise device costs
