TU Graz 3D-Printed Ceramic Cubes Cool Homes Without Air Conditioning
Researchers at Graz University of Technology's Institute of Architecture and Media have developed 3D-printed ceramic cubes that use passive evaporative cooling. In a hot attic field test, the cubes lowered the internal temperature by nearly 13 degrees Fahrenheit without electricity. Demonstrations are installed in Graz, and commercialization is under evaluation.
- Ceramic clay cubes cool via evaporation with no electricity required
- Field test in a hot attic cut temperature by nearly 13 degrees Fahrenheit
- Porous design absorbs moisture and spreads it through capillary forces
- Demo installations are at the Museum of Perception and TU Graz campus
