Microsoft tells nonprofits deleted M365 data can't be recovered

Microsoft admitted an error deleted nonprofit customers' Microsoft 365 Business Premium data before their retention period ended after the grant program was retired. Recovery attempts failed, the company can't say what was lost, and it is offering affected organizations free help setting up a new environment.

• The grant of 10 free M365 Business Premium licenses was not renewed after July 1, 2025
• Data was deleted before the retention and export window closed and could not be recovered
• Microsoft cannot list what was deleted or how many nonprofits were affected
• Affected customers are offered a free concierge service to set up a new M365 environment
