EU AI envoy tells commissioners to focus on using AI, not building models

The EU's special envoy for industrial AI, Jim Hagemann Snabe, told the 27 commissioners at a private seminar on 4 September to focus on deploying AI to lift Europe's productivity rather than racing to build top models. His team will study sector-by-sector AI use until December, draft policies by year-end, with a final strategy expected in early 2027.
