Nvidia updates RTX Mega Geometry to 2.0 with on-demand geometry streaming to VRAM
Nvidia has released RTX Mega Geometry SDK 2.0, which streams ray-tracing geometry into VRAM on demand so scenes larger than the memory budget can still be traced. The technology debuts in Gears of War: E-Day on Oct. 6 and will later be part of Microsoft's DirectX Raytracing 2.0.
- SDK 2.0 streams continuous LOD clusters into VRAM when a scene exceeds budget
- Defaults: 2GB for streamed geometry, 2GB for acceleration structures, 4GB for textures
- Zorah sample: 1.6 billion triangles in a 70GB download, only 1.5GB of mesh in VRAM
- Requires an RTX GPU with 10GB+ VRAM, driver 570 or later, and DXR 1.1
