Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 drops features found on last year's Gen 5
An Android Authority breakdown found the standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 lacks features present in last year's Gen 5, including HPM GPU cache, the APV codec, H.266 decoding and 8K60 video. Several capabilities are now exclusive to the Extreme Gen 6.
- Gen 6 loses the 18MB HPM cache that Gen 5 had
- Video capture drops from 8K60 to 8K30, slow-mo from 4K240 to 4K120
- No APV codec support and no H.266 (VVC) decoding
- Matrix cores for AI upscaling are Extreme-only
