NASA advances PRIMA far-infrared space telescope to design phase

NASA has moved its PRIMA (Probe far-Infrared Mission for Astrophysics) telescope into Phase B, the preliminary design and technology stage. The 1.8-meter observatory will study far-infrared wavelengths beyond JWST's reach, targeting exoplanet formation, galaxy growth and black hole evolution. Launch is planned no earlier than 2033 with a $1.2 billion cost cap.
