Black Holes Build Star-Forming Rings Across Nine Galaxies, Harvard Study Finds
Astronomers at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics using the VLT telescope found that active black holes in nine nearby galaxies form star-forming rings by shock-compressing gas with jets. This contradicts the AGN negative feedback hypothesis built into the IllustrisTNG, EAGLE, and SIMBA simulations.
- Study covered nine nearby galaxies
- Black hole jets compress gas and trigger star formation
- Result contradicts IllustrisTNG, EAGLE, and SIMBA simulations
- Observations were made with the VLT telescope
