Sanders bill would ban superintelligence and create a Department of AI

Senator Bernie Sanders and Representative Greg Casar introduced the Ban Artificial Superintelligence Act, which would permanently ban building or deploying artificial superintelligence in the US and pause work on the most advanced AI systems. Violators could face up to 20 years in prison, while companies would lose their charter and hand assets to the federal government. The bill also creates a Department of Artificial Intelligence.
