Microsoft Commits to Sweeping AI Privacy Rules for Students. Will Other Tech Giants Follow?

Microsoft agreed with the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) on AI privacy and safety standards in schools: student and teacher data will not be used to train models, sold, or used in advertising. The agreement is mandatory for all Microsoft school clients from November 1 and includes independent audits. OpenAI and Anthropic are in similar talks, Google has not responded.
