Africa launches HAIDI and ADDN hubs for disability data in AI

Researchers and advocates unveiled the Hub for AI and Disability Inclusion (HAIDI) and the African Disability Data Network (ADDN) at the Global Data Festival in Nairobi. Backed by IDRC, FCDO and AI4D, the initiatives will map disability datasets across Africa and build data infrastructure for inclusive AI.

• More than 1 in 8 people in the WHO African Region have a significant disability
• AI4D scoping study covered 585 participants in Ghana, Kenya and Rwanda
• Kenyan Sign Language data is extremely limited versus American Sign Language
