Japan switches on first full-stack room-temperature quantum computer
Researchers in Japan have activated Shunkai, the country's first full-stack neutral-atom quantum computer, which operates at room temperature. It starts with about 50 qubits, scaling to roughly 500, with a goal of 10,000 physical qubits and error correction by March 2031.
- Shunkai uses neutral atoms held by optical tweezers and runs at room temperature
- Starts at ~50 qubits, expanding to roughly 500
- Target is 10,000 physical qubits with error correction by March 2031
- It will be integrated into a shared supercomputing facility as a quantum-GPU hybrid center
