Bangladesh plans single digital ID within 18–24 months

Bangladesh aims to launch a single digital identity as a gateway to public services within 18–24 months as part of an AI-enabled digital public infrastructure. The World Bank-backed One-ID project under the D-STAR program includes a smartphone wallet for payments, subsidies and fees, modeled on Estonia's X-Road.
