Tesla brings Powerwall 3 backwards compatibility to North America

Tesla has expanded Powerwall 3 backwards compatibility to North America, letting Powerwall 2 owners add modern battery units to existing home setups. The feature requires software version 26.26 and Backup Gateway 2, supporting up to four Powerwall 2 units, one Powerwall 3 and three Expansion units.

• Powerwall 2 owners in North America can now add a Powerwall 3
• Requires software 26.26+ and Backup Gateway 2; Gateway 1 and Neurio unsupported
• Up to 4 Powerwall 2, 1 Powerwall 3 and 3 Expansion units per site
• Powerwall 3 output is capped at 5 kW on three-phase grids
