Europe must build its own AI or risk being cut off, says ECB’s Lagarde

ECB President Christine Lagarde said Europe's dependence on foreign AI could become leverage in tariff and digital tax negotiations. She noted the US created 59 significant AI models, China 35, and France and the UK one each; the US accounts for three-quarters of global AI compute, Europe 5%.
