AMD showcases Tetrahedral Cages, cutting BVH memory use by 47x
AMD has demonstrated Tetrahedral Cages, a ray tracing technique that wraps animated meshes in deformable cages, keeping geometry and its BVH static and reusable. The company claims BVH memory use drops 47x while BVH updates speed up 90x.
- BVH memory use cut 47x, BVH updates sped up 90x
- Radeon RX 9070 XT rendered 25,000 animated plants above 60fps at 1080p
- VRAM fell from 80GB to 1.7GB, frame cost from 300ms to 3.3ms
- Targeted at trees, grass and foliage, losing per-vertex animation
