Two White Dwarfs Orbit Each Other Every 6.2 Minutes

Astronomers found the binary system eRASSU J0608, two white dwarfs orbiting each other every 374.15 seconds. Its orbit is shrinking unusually fast due to gravitational waves, making it a promising target for the future LISA observatory.

• Orbital period is 374.15013 seconds
• Orbit decays faster than in HM Cnc and V407 Vul
• Inferred chirp mass is about 0.43 solar masses
• Gravitational waves at roughly 5.3 mHz suit LISA
