AWS confirms unrecoverable data loss in Bahrain and UAE regions

On September 15, 2026, AWS confirmed permanent, unrecoverable data loss across all three Availability Zones in its Bahrain region (me-south-1) and one zone in the UAE (mec1-az2). The company said the damage exceeded what its regional and multi-AZ services are designed to withstand, following strikes on Gulf infrastructure in March and April 2026.
