ECB launches Pontes for tokenised securities settlement and will invest in tokenised sovereign bonds
On 21 September the ECB switched on Pontes, a service letting tokenised securities settle in central bank money, and said it will invest part of its own funds in tokenised bonds issued by euro-area governments. Hong Kong has sold three digital green bonds worth HK$16.8 billion, Slovenia issued a digital bond in 2024, and the UK's DIGIT pilot is booked for early 2027.
