Super-simple interface replaces touchscreen with PVC and printer toner

Researchers at Shibaura Institute of Technology developed a touch interface printed with a standard laser printer on transparent PVC. Sliding a finger over the toner pattern generates electrical signals via the triboelectric effect, enabling direction, speed, letter, and user recognition.

• Direction and speed determined with error no more than 3.5%
• Recognition accuracy: 89.2% for 26 letters, 97.1% for seven patterns
• User identification among seven participants: 97.1%
• No toner film wear after 1000 sliding cycles
