Voyager 1 went silent for two days before signaling back on Oct. 20

NASA's Voyager 1 missed two scheduled check-ins with the Deep Space Network on Oct. 18 and 19 but signaled back on Oct. 20. Engineers found one set of thrusters had shut down and a backup took over; the cause remains unknown. On Nov. 18 the probe will reach one light-day from Earth, roughly 16.09 billion miles.
