Baseten releases joey-1, a 2B open-weights decision model

Baseten on October 29, 2026 released joey-1, a 2B-parameter decision model from its Base Labs research unit priced at $0.01 per million tokens. It is available through Baseten Model APIs and as open weights on Hugging Face under the MIT license, joining mammoth-1 (27B) and elephant-1 (9B).

• joey-1 costs $0.01 per million tokens, one tenth of mammoth-1's $0.1
• P50 end-to-end latency is about 20 ms for a 2,000-token request vs 49 ms for elephant-1
• It scores 63.30 on the Jev Decision Index 0.4, ranking 37th of 230 models
• Trained on 6.21 million decision examples from Qwen3.5-2B on 16 H100 GPUs
