Ex-Intel CEO Gelsinger backs Nagare Labs' Z2RAM as HBM rival
Former Intel CEO Patrick Gelsinger has backed memory startup Nagare Labs and its Z2RAM technology, which combines traits of SRAM, DRAM and flash. The memory is integrated directly on the logic die and promises DRAM-like density, SRAM-like speed and flash-like scalability as an alternative to HBM. Gelsinger's Playground Global is investing in Nagare.
- Z2RAM sits on the logic die, shortening the data path
- It drops the 1T1C capacitor for two transistors, storing charge on the second gate
- Gelsinger says Z2RAM offers better density, speed and power than HBM
