Lumina simulation recreates the universe's first 2 billion years
Researchers unveiled Lumina, a simulation covering 2 billion years of cosmic history, from the end of the Cosmic Dark Age to the emergence of the first galaxies. It is the first of its kind to track both hydrogen and helium reionization; the results appeared in Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society.
- Simulation spans 2 billion of the universe's 13.8 billion years
- Scale range exceeds other simulations, from 1.6 billion light-years down to galaxies
- First to model hydrogen and helium reionization together
- Model includes dark matter, stars, gas and radiation
