Seoul Viosys starts mass production of white LEDs without rare earths

Seoul Semiconductor and affiliate Seoul Viosys have begun mass production of WICOP 3, the first white LEDs made without rare earths or packages. A 25×10 µm micro LED emits 0.015 lumens at close to 100 lm/W, with production costs about half those of conventional white LEDs.

• WICOP 3 is the first white opto-semiconductor in a micro LED under 100 µm
• A 25×10 µm chip produces 0.015 lumens at nearly 100 lm/W
• Manufacturing cost is about half that of conventional white LEDs
• The company targets 200 lm/W within two years
