Rendezvous Robotics raises $20M for self-assembling spacecraft
Rendezvous Robotics has raised a $20 million seed round and shifted focus to spacecraft that assemble themselves in orbit from hexagonal tiles. A 2028 mission will demonstrate seven tiles autonomously joining into one spacecraft, separating and reassembling in a new configuration.
- The $20M round was led by MaC Venture Capital and Toyota Ventures
- A December ISS demo will have 32 tiles self-assemble into a 3D structure
- The 2028 mission will join, split and reassemble seven tiles
- Tiles about 3 feet across latch together using electromagnets
