Russia to permanently seal leaking ISS tunnel
Roscosmos is reportedly preparing to permanently close the hatch between the Zvezda module and the PrK transfer tunnel, where an air leak has persisted since 2019. The next Progress MS-36 cargo mission will be unloaded through the Poisk module instead.
- Leak in the PrK tunnel was first detected in 2019 and resisted repairs
- By April 2024 the leak reached 3.7 pounds of air per day
- NASA elevated the leak to its highest risk level
- Progress MS-36 will be unloaded via Poisk instead of Zvezda
