NUS develops eLuminator electronic skin that lights up when touched
Researchers at the National University of Singapore have created eLuminator, a 70-micrometer flexible electronic skin that converts pressure directly into visible light. Its 847-dpi resolution is fine enough to resolve individual fingerprint ridges. The technology targets robotic sensing, surgical instruments and wearable healthcare devices.
- Film is 70 µm thick with 847 dpi resolution
- Pressure converts directly to light without a separate display
- Three layers: micro-domes, ZnS:Cu phosphor and transparent electrode
- Harder presses produce brighter glow at the contact point
