Scientists film melting of skyrmion lattice in real time for the first time
Researchers at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and NTNU recorded the melting of a magnetic skyrmion lattice while simultaneously manipulating individual vortices, changing their shape and size on the fly. Published in Nature Nanotechnology, the work could advance energy-efficient, brain-like computing.
- Skyrmions are nanoscale magnetic vortices that can store data with far less energy
- First real-time footage of skyrmion lattice melting with direct control of each vortex
- Results published in Nature Nanotechnology (2025, vol. 20, p. 1405)
- The approach could support spintronics and quantum computing research
