Tech layoffs in 2026 hit 196,000 workers as Amazon, Meta and Microsoft cut jobs

Nearly 200,000 tech workers were affected by layoffs in 2026, according to TrueUp's tracker, which counted 196,349 people as of Oct. 23. Amazon, Meta, Microsoft, eBay, Netflix and Electronic Arts all cut staff, with EA also closing BioWare.
